Shabana Azmi Diagnosed With Swine Flu After Delhi NEET Protest Participation

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has been diagnosed with swine flu after supporting NEET protestors in Delhi. She was forced to cancel her Mumbai Shivaji Park protest participation as doctors advised complete rest.

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has been diagnosed with swine flu and is currently recovering under medical supervision after doctors advised her complete rest. The development comes after she spent three days in Delhi supporting students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak.

The 75-year-old actor was expected to join a students’ demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Friday, but her illness forced her to stay away from the protest. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Shabana is running a high fever of 102 degrees and has been advised complete bed rest by doctors.

“Shabana ji was meant to go to the protest today, but she has contracted swine flu with 102 fever and has been advised rest by the doctor,” her team said in a statement as quoted by The Hindustan Times.

The actor is currently in isolation for five days and is recovering under medical supervision. Due to her health condition, she could not attend the students’ protest scheduled to take place in Mumbai.

Shabana Azmi Suffered Asthma Attack During Delhi Protest

Shabana had joined the Chalo Sansad protest organised by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Delhi on July 20. The march was led by Abhijeet Dipke along with Sonam Wangchuk and several student groups and was held in support of students demanding action over alleged examination irregularities.

Following the protest, Shabana revealed that she suffered an asthma attack after being exposed to tear gas deployed during the demonstration.

“I am an asthmatic and got an attack because of the tear gas, but I had my pump with me so I am ok now. I was respectfully escorted to a nearby building and after catching my breath, I went right back and spoke to the students who had been lathicharged. Their spirit is unprecedented. My salaams to all of them,” she told The Indian Express.

Students Continue To Demand Action Over NEET Row

The Chalo Sansad protest involved several student organisations protesting alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.

Along with seeking accountability over the examination process, the protesters have also been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration witnessed heightened security, with visuals showing police personnel using tear gas and carrying out an alleged lathi charge while dispersing protesters.

Shabana Azmi’s health setback has kept her away from the Mumbai protest, while student groups continue their demonstrations over alleged NEET examination irregularities and their demand for action.
